I’m so in awe of all this city has to offer, all the different cultures, ages, people and experiences, and I want to find out all about them and document them and share them and fall more in love with this city.

MY LOCAL WORLD is about helping people to GET OUTSIDE THE WORLD YOU LIVE IN. It aims to bring the world to you.

Sydney has so much to offer, representing so much of the world. I want to explore more of it, and share it, and hopefully find some beautiful hidden gems in amongst the mess we sometimes make of things, and meet people we don’t yet understand.

How you can use MY LOCAL WORLD

  • If you’ve ever wanted to travel internationally and didn’t have the guts or the savings to do it, use MY LOCAL WORLD to look up any experiences you might want to try. Planning a trip to Athens and want to try some Greek food? Always wanted to go to France but can’t get the airfare together? MY LOCAL WORLD will help you find these experiences.
  • If you want to find out what else there is to do in your city, search MY LOCAL WORLD for anything that tickles your fancy. With 6 different categories to choose from, there is bound to be something for you.  Looking for Indian Ayurvedic treatments?  The best of Scandinavian cinema?  MY LOCAL WORLD wants to be there too!
  • If you’ve got family or friends visiting from overseas and want to give them a little taste of home, use MY LOCAL WORLD to show them how diverse Sydney is. Maybe your Filipino grandmother doesn’t like the way you cook adobo and she needs her food fix.  Maybe you have an Irish brother-in-law who needs to find the best places to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. MY LOCAL WORLD will help.
  • If you’re from overseas, making Sydney your new home, and feeling a little homesick, the MY LOCAL WORLD will help make the transition a little less lonely. From events to specialty stores from any number of countries, MY LOCAL WORLD will help you find something from home – right here in Sydney.

We’re always on the lookout for more experiences to add to the site, so if you come across any you think we should add, feel free to contact me and let me know :)

I’m a Sydney-based writer with a keen interest in discovering everything the world has to offer. If money were no option, I would travel all over the globe.  I grew up in Western Sydney, which is a pretty diverse area, and because of this, I’ve always been really proud of how multicultural my home city is.  I’ve always had friends whose family came from “somewhere else”, and we’ve always discovered that our differences give us our common ground.  We taught each other swear words in primary school, ate each other’s food, met each other’s families, and whilst Western Sydney gets a lot of flack for being less cultured than more affluent areas of Sydney, I’ve found that my upbringing has enriched my life in more ways than any childhood in a wealthy suburb could.

I’ve always loved being out and about, and this has made me travel whenever I could.  I’d still like to travel more, but so far I’ve been to parts of Asia, parts of Europe, parts of North Africa, parts of the United States and parts of Australia.  I’ve been drunk in the highest Irish pub in the world (Paddy’s in Cusco), slept in a petrol station outside of Madrid with 4 British backpackers (we missed the bus back to town after a wild fiesta), taken a very bumpy bus ride between Siem Reap in Cambodia and some bordertown in Thailand (I forget the name – my brains fell out of my head that day, the ride was so bumpy) and so much more. I’ve done a lot of touristy things too, not just gotten myself in a heap of messes!

After a while I found myself back in Sydney trying to pay off debt and save more money (two conflicting activities, let me tell you!), but really wishing I was still travelling.  It dawned on me that Sydney had a lot to offer in terms of “international” experiences, and once I cottoned on to that, I took advantage of anything I could get my hands on in my own city.  It helped ease the feeling of constantly wanting to get away, and it also made me appreciate how diverse and lovely Sydneysiders were.

As a result, my writing has been all about discovering different people and places, and learning to understand all kinds of experiences. I love writing just as much as I love exploration, and I’ve written for a wide variety of publications.  I’m also a Lifestyle Editor at Leaders in Heels, an online community that nurtures and inspires female leaders and entrepreneurs (although the men are also welcome).
